I would like to start this post with a little story I had read or heard long ago ….. it definitely left an impact and I kind of have realized it’s value today.
One day Lord Narada asked Lord Vishnu to tell him who was his biggest devotee, having been sure that Lord Vishnu would take his name as he is known to sing the praises of Lord Vishnu all day long. Knowingly that Lord Narada is expecting him (Lord Vishnu) to take his name, to teach him a lesson Lord Vishnu told him an ordinary farmer who works hard day and night, he is my biggest devotee.
Lord Narada was stunned to find out that there’s somebody else who is considered an even bigger devotee than him. Curious to find out the reason, he goes to earth to see what does this poor farmer do and follows him for a few days.
He went back to Vaikunth (where Lord Vishnu resides) and questioned Lord Vishu that how can this poor man be your biggest devotee when all he does is take your name in the morning, goes to work in the fields all day and gets back late in the evening and then only he remembers you again.
Lord Vishnu said he may not take my name all day long, yet he puts all his concentration at work, doesn’t let his mind wander around that’s how he connects to me.
I believe that’s where the term “Work is worship” comes from.
This story emerged after years in my mind again because I have been exploring the mystical side of life and been questioning life and its wonderful ways…….I am also in awe of life itself and the beauty that is around us all the time.
What is meditation? Focusing at one single point…..the nothingness, the stillness …. why do we meditate? In order to connect with god/ higher self etc
If we totally focus at work without letting our mind wander, full total concentration – its nothing less than worshipping god itself
A dear friend of mine always exclaims how “Busy” is an understatement in his life cuz of the amount of workload and the pressure he has to go through, Yet I always tell him “Busy is good” ……now I shall tell him how lucky he is to be that busy…..it’s an opportunity to connect to the divine itself.
I totally love this story, its my all time fave.
And yes indeed work is worship, alot of people tell me dont make work youre life and i respond to them i do what i love, and it loves me back because i am happy though there are times petty things happen at work, but we all need balance in life. Right?
Btw, a thought, how do we appreciate the good things if we havent experienced the bad?
Loves,
Kush
